Several representative examples of past projects related to business operations, which we have been successfully involved in, include simulation and optimisation of performance and resources in an emergency department, performance and resource optimisation in an airport under stressful operation, and simulation of peak demand operation of an electric power grid.

ACHSOL has extensive expertise in this kind of simulations on the basis of the dedicated simulating software, such as ExtendSim, AnyLogic, and other simulating packages. Simulations are also supported and advanced further by modern statistical methods of analysis of any obtained simulation outcomes. The unique combination of computer simulations, advanced statistical methodologies, and exceptional theoretical simulation expertise has enabled us to successfully solve complex operational problems that are often beyond reach of other companies and organisations offering analytical consulting services

Airport Performance Simulation

Airport1 400Performance of a typical airport configuration under the steady and stressed service conditions was simulated and optimised using the ExtendSim simulation software package and subsequent statistical modelling. A sequence of operations including check-in for different passenger categories, security screening, customs, and boarding was simulated with the view to optimise the required staff, needed facilities, and the acceptable waiting times.

Non-steady-state relaxation from stressed operation conditions to the steady service provision after a stressful event characterised by a strong and sudden increase of passenger flow (e.g., after a disruption of flight schedules) was considered and analysed using the ExtendSim software and advanced statistical methods for the determination of typical relaxation times and required resources and facilities to ensure reasonable and acceptable relaxation times.

The outcomes and the developed methodological approaches will be useful for optimisation of performance of complex service systems with sequential services (like in modern airports), and their preparedness for unexpected events affecting services.

Hospital Emergency Department

Medical1new1 01 400Performance of an emergency department was also simulated from patient's arrival and triage evaluation to further diagnostics and tests, emergency treatment, and subsequent discharge or transfer to the regular hospital facilities.

The focus of the analysis was on the minimisation of the waiting and treatment times, optimisation of the nursing and doctor/specialist staff, and numbers of the required emergency beds. The simulation allowed re-categorisation of any patients with initially erroneous diagnosis/evaluation, and enabled simple approximate evaluation of the required resources/staff in the event of unexpectedly increased influx of patients (e.g., because of disaster and other critical situations).

The developed methodology and simulations could be adapted to the needs of your department or organisation to incorporate any particular requirements and/or service steps, and address your specific analytical and business needs.

Power Grid Simulations

Power grid 400The breadth and diversity of the applicability of the developed simulation methodologies and techniques (including those based on such packages as ExtendSim, AnyLogic, etc.) was further demonstrated by the successful simulation and analysis of demand response during peak demand for electric power and respective performance of the electric grid under the increased loads.

The major focus was on the determination and optimisation of possible power savings under the condition of reasonable maintenance of comfortable conditions inside dwellings with different energy requirements.

The developed simulation methodologies can be further developed and adopted in accordance with your company's needs and expectations.

Importantly, the simulation methodologies developed at ACHSOL are not limited in their applicability to the frameworks of the above three examples of past projects, but could also be applied to a variety of complex business set-ups with multiple operations involving a variety of subjects/customers.
